British days

One week, in a "Great" country, unforgettable days in ''Great Britain"

Milton Keynes

our residence for one week - a large town in Buckinghamshire, a new town (its birth was in the 1960s), without impressive and old buildings (as I expected) but with a very large shopping centre and high business buildings in its central district and new built districts around, with beautiful houses and quiet atmosphere.

Our first visit to London
very impressed by Tube, streets, buses, buildings...everything!

The British Museum
one of the world's greatest museums of human history and culture. Huge building, great collections, people around the world- need a few days to discover the real value of this museum. We only visited (for Andrei who is all the time fascinated by mummies) the Egyptian gallery, because the museum holds the largest collection of Egyptian objects outside Egypt.

Tower Bridge
in fact two towers tied together by two walkways, painted red white an blue, a symbol of London, intensive used by pedestrians and vehicles, with modern and old buildings around.

Tower of London
beautiful castle on the bank of the River Thames, near Tower Bridge, known as a prison and place for torture and death.

Palace of Westminster, or the Houses of Parliament
in the heart of London, on the north bank of the River Thames- together with Big Ben, in the Clock Tower.

London Eye
the giant wheel situated on the banks of the river Thames. About 30 minutes rotation in a capsule in the heart of London… an excellent view over the city…an unique experience up in the sky.

Natural History Museum

another famous museum, named sometimes “a cathedral of nature”: big halls, many collections with a great historical and scientific value, educational programs( full of school children doing their homework) …We had a short visit, also for Andrei (big fan of the dinosaurs) only in the blue zone with Dinosaurs.

Buckingham Palace
the principal (official) royal residence….but closed for visiting…and with Andrei very disappointed that he couldn’t see the Queen!!!

St. James's Park - next to Buckingham Palace

On our way to Trafalgar Square...

One visit to Birmingham
a huge aquarium in National Sea Life Centre:

City of Cambridge
who has never heard about this city? I wanted to see it and in the last day of my holiday…my wish has been fulfilled: a small but great city, narrow streets, unique architecture, reputation for intellectual excellence, students mixed with a lot of tourists, live music on the streets, shops with colorful windows…In one window it was written a quote: “You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body ”. So I can say that I am a soul in love with this city and I have a body that wants to visit Cambridge again.
